On Site Training
It is becoming more and more popular for companies to do onsite training and it is a really good idea. Some people cannot see the advantage though and do not consider doing it – it is worth thinking things through before dismissing it. Many companies now even have specialist training rooms with computers in. This may seem like a big expense but if you consider how much money they will save then it may seem more worthwhile.
Firstly consider the cost of a training course. You have to pay for the persons place on the course. Then you have to pay their travel expenses to get there. There may be the expense of an overnight stay. There may be the expense of meals as well. Some companies give bonuses to employees if they are away from their homes for a night. Then there is the lost hours away from their desk.
Imagine now if you offered computer courses on site. There would be no expense of overnight stays or travel expenses. There would be no need for meal allowances or bonuses for being away from home. Of course there is still the cost of the time away form the desk, but this should be less because there will be no travelling. The cost of the course may vary. If you have to pay the trainer to come to the company then that will be costly. However, if a staff member does the training or it is done on line then this could save a lot of money.
Before just automatically sending employees off to training courses it is well worth considering what their options there are first. If you do not have a staff member capable of doing the training and there is nothing on line, you could always send just one staff member and they could train the others on their routine. It could be hard to decide who to send but it will save you a lot of money even if they cannot explain certain bits well enough. It is possible that there will be bits f the course which would not be understood even with a very expert trainer.
So take a look at all of the options available and see whether you can cut your training budget. If you have a fixed budget to spend then by cutting costs it means that you will be able to afford to send more people on the training or get people to do more training courses.
